random tidbits

I feel like I have blogger's... block or something. I think of all these things I want to post about, but when I sit down at the computer, they float away.... ah, well.

inspired by the state of the union speech.... some random political news tidbits..... First up, Bush skips some complex realities. (But are we sure he understood them to begin with? ;) That little quip is doubly barbbed, for both sides. I like offending as many people as possible, but for some reason with me it's usually just that nobody gets it. On deck, poor poor Hillary. Halliburton is in the hole. Did I switch those around? (That's sports terminology for 1 2 3. Yes, I'm retarded. Did you want a post or not. On second thought, don't answer that.)

Numero Uno:
I am sorry but I really couldn't find anything unbiased in this headline.... I really really tried, seriously.... But it really seems honestly a bit slanted:

"Bush Skips Complex Realities in Address"

Not that I am surprised with the AP on this one. Still, I see more complex realities revolving around healthcare, energy, and Iraqi troops... But honestly how long would his speech had to have been to address every important issue and every side of it. I was not exactly under the impression that this would be an unbiased view of the situation. It's Bush's view. Everybody knows that on both sides.

Check the URL and you can even see that this is less of a summary of the speech and the democratic response (which is ignored....) than a "fact check." Which allows what was actually said to be ignored, and what wasn't (meaningful or not) to be emphasized.

Nummer Zwei:
Poor Hillary. What's a girl to do. You try to stay in the middle, extremists hate you. Go with the extreme, well, everybody hates you (but them I guess.) This is turning into a John McCain wet dream. Hillary is getting herself onto enough shaky ground talking about plantations, and now these ladies don't like that she supported keeping troops in Iraq... In a vote which was 403 to 3.... I understand idealism, but why don't they just shoot her in the foot? It would be faster and less painful to watch.

And lastly, since I ran out of languages to say Number Three:
While researching Halliburton on Morninstar.com, to see if my grandparents should sell their stock, I found an interesting tid pit. The Evil Oil Company is made up of two divisions, one called KBR (government contracts - and scandal, dealings in Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, and the Balkans among others) and the other of oil services where they sell drill bits and software and the like. The interesting part: KBR is hugely unprofitable. The company is in a shambles because of how little money it makes, eating up most of the revenue created by the oil services division. THE IRONY. Halliburton is taking flack for all kinds of crap, from overchargin the government to employee asbestos exposure, and they can't even manage their damn company well enough to really be the Evil Oil Company Mwa Ha Ha.

They're either good at fooling stock holders (unlikely, as they need people to buy their stock) or good at hiding profits OR--what I consider most likely--COMPLETE IDIOTS.

Ha ha ha. Ahhh that felt good. Watching the State of the Union tonight got me all hepped up. Who's ready for war with Iran? And I mean that in the most neutral way possible.

OK I promise soon I will have more fun things to write about - you must forgive me but I've been busy living other people's lives vicariously. (*wink* you know who you are!)
